Default Sonoran Coral

I took my wife for a quick road cruise north of town for the usual suspects....atrox, mohave, glossy and cal kings. I wasn't expecting this at all:

We also found a night snake (no pictures) and an atrox:

And a new friend :

Not bad for two hours.

They never do appear where you expect. I have only found them while looking for something else and when conditions didn't seem right for them.

Jeff:

Great finds! Hopefully tonight will be as good (or better? if possible).

I will call later this afternoon if I can find your number. right now, I am borrowing a computer in the office of the guy I am cross training with this week before we head to today's contractor. I might be able to grab it again for a few minutes this afternoon when we get back.

Default You did good!....

Corals have a strange Karma. I was born in Az. and literally started herpin' when I could walk. Found my first willardi at age 12 (while looking for pyros of course), found about 20-30 more willards before I found my first pyro at 16, but it took me 45 years to find a coral! And believe me, I looked! Then you have people who just move here (I won't mention any names but one of them has an Irish last name and is rumored to have a shamrock stamped on his arse) who find like seven of them in two years. (I guess I should mention that "MR. Shamrock" was present when my first was found, so we must have been riding on his karma)I'm Irish too, but the stamp must have broken as I passed on the conveyor line,

Well, I've been herping AZ for 50 years off and on including a year at Fort Huachuca and, except for captives, have actually found less than a dozen Corals. But, one time, many years ago, I went into Dr. Chuck Lowe's lab at UofA and there, on a table, were +/-25 Corals (live), each in it's own, individual gallon jar. Dr. Lowe said that all the snakes had been picked up on the campus at night when watering was taking place. It was quite a sight.

I found a Coral just south of Reata Pass Restaurant many years ago. In fact, it was probably 25 years ago. Dale Lindner used to find them fairly often on or near Charleston Road in Sierra Vista in that same time frame. He gave me one that was 22 or 23 inches long, as I recall. This had to be "pushing" a record length.

Jeff...how long was the Coral that you found?
