Thought it better to start a new thread had a few ideas thought if anyone else did too they could post m here :)
Well i have only been to one meeting so far so if i step on anybodys toes just let me know.
Was wandering if we had a PR officer someone who visited locale stores on behalf of the club and help arrange guest speakers and be someone who would be the go between guy/girl for the club. I have been in clubs where we arranged speakers and no one would keep up with communications between the club and speakers and a few were alienated and never came back. We might already have something like this or maby all the officers do something simaler just wasn't sure.
We used to have a video night ounce a year also where members brought in recordings of there animals/set ups and would talk about where they got them different methods and field questions. Dont know if this would work just a thought.

How about a class to teach how to handle rattle snakes and how to id them?
A field guide would work but it won't replace talking to an experienced person. Maybe a flowchart or something that takes you through the steps? Colors and tailbands seem easy enough, but supraoculars?
Just thinking out loud...

You mean like a "snake ID in the field" class? come on down to the AZ trail and the Zoo some Sunday, you will get a crash course from some of the best keepers out there!
but maybe a "field techniques and observation" walk sometime would be fun. I'll look into it.

...of the zoo and doing some hotline/education time will soon have you up to speed on ID-ing native snakes. As for handling, if we get enough interest, we could get together a catch-release day out in the field. Wanna get some names together?

If so do you have any contact info? Or should i call the zoos main number?
LOL,Hold up wait a minute!!!! careful that is coming from the people who cannot tell a tigris from a damn triaspis. I'll give them a few minutes to look that up on google before they respond!!! Quick girls try www.google.com

Loteer if you need a crash course in Arizonas rattlesnakes i'd be more than happy to give you FACTS, and I can show you how to properly use hooks and tongs. I have every Arizona rattlesnake that can be legally owned, all with different attitudes/dispositions you can practice on. I'm about 45 minutes from Phoenix if you want to take me up on this, let me know.

And, pray tell, who is going to convince the snakes to come out in the heat of an AZ summer and subject themselves to capture/release?

that different populations of the same rattlesnake behave differently one from the other. I have tigers, for instance, which are calm, cool and collected and never strike. Yet, I have another from a different location which hits the glass the moment one walks by the cage. Then, we have a schizoid cerb which, depending on how he feels that day, will either be calm or rattle like hell and strike. Oh, yeah, and all scutes are not hyper.
Jerry between my wife ane I, theres about 30 or so crotes. Every single one has a different disposition. I have some Tigers and Specks that i have never heard rattle, and i have some that rattle in the back bedroom when i open the front door, some leave venom on the glass in their cage while they are striking. Some are too lazy to open there mouth at feeding time. I have a pair of CB atrox's from the same litter, one is cool and calm and his brother i'm scared to death of. I have good ones to learn from, and i have some that i will actually break the tongs out on. And i hate using tongs. The snake i thought was the tamest has never rattled or shown any aggression, but its the one that tagged me a while back. I learned from that experience. Luckily a dry bite, but a good wake up call to never trust a wild animal.

That sounds good! I guess you're referring to the Phoenix Zoo, but what's the AZ trail?

By 'scutes' you mean C. Scutulatas (Mojave)? I think the atrox is a diamondback and 'crotes' refers to all the rattle snakes in general. I think I'm starting to catch on...;)
What's a cerb of the schizoid subspecies?

You can do it Croc Hunter style and plant the snakes and run up to them like you just "found" it. LOL I definitely see some merit in having "Keys to identifying local species" and "Proper handling techniques" classes

Yeah, don't you just love that "found it" gag. He sells it really well, though...
