ALL:

I would like to get a feel for what kinds of ways our members would like to be involved in the club. Basically, "what would you like to participate in?"

Its not enough for folks on the board to say "nobody's helping us", neither is it constructive for memebers to feel like there is nowhere in the club they want to get involved. SO...

I want to know what you want to see more of. What kinds of things would get you involved? What kind of projects or events would you consider helping with?

Thanks in advance for your ideas,
B~

..here is what is already on offer, or in the pipeline:

1) Closer links and opportunities with Phoenix Zoo

2) Same with the PHS

3) possibilites of working closer with AzGF on thier field projects.

4) participation in hotline dispatch and or callouts.

5) Education visits all over the valley

6) NEW...."social"....activities!! (anybody wanna party?)

We are looking to see what else members want to get involved in. We would like this to be a fun, pro-active club.

Well i have always been interested in venemous local species but have no experience with them dont even know ehere to get started. I have 2 kids so was thinking maby in 6 years when they are close to being out of the house but i would like to learn as much as i can before then. Maby the club could set up maby some kinda class or venemous snake outings ounce a month where experienced members could show/teach people like me how to handle and keep them.

Just a thought thanx

Has anyone ever looked into maby a club bus charter or something along those lines to say the tucson show or maby some others in neighboring states. I dont know if there's enough interest in something like that but it'd be great and probly a little cheaper if we could get enough people interested???

Ya know, that is a GREAT idea! One of the bird clubs in Phoenix charters a bus for an over night trip to a bird mart in Pomona, California. I believe for $30? a person they get a bus and a one night stay at a motel and usually they spend part of one day visiting an aviary some where in between. To make sure they fill their bus, they open the trip up to non members, advertising with other clubs, however in this clubs case, seeing the size and all, I'd make sure and give AHA members first opportunity.

guys these are great ideas, I will deffinitely follow up on the bus trip, but what I am looking for in this thread is not so much "what your club can do for you" but "what can you do for your club?"

If I set up volunteer ops with Game and Fish, would you go?

How about helping with native frog habitat restoration?

adopt a highway?

special projects at the Zoo-- like a "clean up day" on the AZ trail?

Organizing a club outing?

How about educational outreach?

Would you be interested in going over to PHS to help out on a work project?

How about staffing a table at the Outdoor Expo?

Although you have every right to expect a lot out of this club, I want to know what you all are willing to put IN. It is easy to be a passive receiver, I want to know who are the DOERS out there, and WHAT you want to do.

Thanks again guys.

well i dont have a vehicle but i could volunteer for almost anything as long as it was local or i could arange transportation. My work is very flexible and i work graveyards i just need enough time in advance to arrange sitters and request days off that type of thing. If you ever need a volunteer or something locale shoot me a PM.

Brandi, I would be willing to help with any of the things listed in this thread, but as with many things, it is a matter of timing. Whenever there is an event, I have to make sure I have time, babysitters, off work, etc. If we had a schedule of upcoming events, I think people would be able to better plan for helping out.

Mike, I'm just trying to get a feel for what people will turn up for. Remember I set up several events at the beginning of the year and only had a couple people show. So I want to do things that people are interested in. Once I get a feel for what yall want to do, I will start making arrangements and post the items to the callendar with as much advance notice as possible. (I feel for ya man, I work two jobs and volunteer, in addition to my club duties!) Keep the ideas comming guys!

thanks again,
B~

The best way to get people involved in the club is to get them to enjoy the club and they feel sense of community and there fore the commitment to help the club. And ventures such as these can turn into a fund raiser for the club.

Guess i'm confused as to what kind of events you were lookin for. That's why i posted about the charter and venemous teach thing. Anything i am willing to attend i am willing to make time to volunteer for.

So Donna, you're on the boards all the time... what would you like to do to help get folks involved? You seem to know all about this bus trip idea, do you want to get some details and start organizing a trip?

I wanted to take everybody down to the Sonoran Desert Museum a while back but got very little response, maybe if you pull it together and to the bus trip/ hotel thing we will get more people involved. whaddya say? :)

As I've said before, there is NO way I'll be getting involved in the running of this club nor any other club which includes taking on any project. If this means any of my suggestions or ideas are now unwelcomed, that's fine with me to.

We all have appreciated your input and I'm guessing Brandi was just seeing if you would like to help on some other projects. :hi

i am alittle late on posting here i think BUT Brandi i am 100% participation on any of the above mentioned things. i think we are know to be actual contributors to the club anyway BUT we are there 100%, with kids if possible. i love the working closer with GandF and the zoo. that is the main reason i joined this club, education is great! that is what we are about!! come on people you can't complain if you aren't participating! get your buttocks out there and put in what you want to get it. this is a great group of people and you'd be surprised how much fun you cna have, AND it may be painful at first BUT you learn a thing or two as well.
Go Brandi!!!
