HADDAM, Conn. - Alice the albino python had a little too much to eat for dinner.

Just hours before its owner, rocker Alice Cooper, was to take the stage at a theater in Wallingford last weekend, the 8-foot-long snake ate a live rat and then swallowed a 12-by-14 inch heating pad, wires and all, that had been left in its cage by mistake.

Before Saturday night's show, Cooper's roadies saw the snake's unusually large bulge and called at-risk snake helper Alison Sloan, who directed Alice to Higganum veterinarian Richard Jacobs.

"It was absolutely an emergency," Sloan told The Hartford Courant Thursday, noting the wires could have ruptured Alice's intestines or other organs with fatal results.

After sedating the python, Jacobs said he cut a 5-inch incision along a row of scales and maneuvered the heating pad out.

"That's an outrageous X-ray," Jacobs said Thursday, looking at the pre-op picture that showed the wires and contacts from the heating pad ‹ plus a rodent. "It's probably the most astonishing X-ray I've taken in my career."

Sloan, director and owner of Ashleigh's Rain Forest in Essex, allowed Cooper to borrow a yellow anaconda for Saturday's show to replace the python, which undulates onstage with Cooper during his performances.

Alice the snake was resting comfortably at Jacobs' office Thursday.

Cooper was unavailable for comment.

Was channel surfing sometime last week and came across Ripleys Believe It Or Not tv show. They had a snake that ate a heating pad but it was still plugged in they had to surgically remove it. :loco

there hasn't been an official statement on the subject, therefore i can't say anything. the people in charge of alice's touring snakes are smart enough not to let an accident like that happen!

That is why they are called accidents.

Could be!
But before you make such a claim, it would be wise to have an alternative story, otherwise, your position is simply vacuous denial.

So are you saying you spoke to one of them about it or just assuming it's not true because you feel they wouldn't make such a mistake.

What ever the case may be, **** happens, I don't think it's a bad reflection on Alice nor his staff, it was a mistake and hopefully others can see that.

I am not trying to start any arguments or disagree with anyone, but i believe that this story is true only because there are no other alternate stories. I mean why would someone just make something up like this unless it really happened, and like Donna said that is why they are called accidents.

Well, where is the radiograph? I believe the veterinarian who performed the operation said that that was the most outrageous x-ray he's ever seen in his career... Anyway, how the hell does a heating pad get inside the enclosure? If on accident, when he was feeding the snake he should have noticed it; or does he pay to have someone do that? lol...

LOL Well I'm sure the vet has the radiographs and maybe if we are lucky Alice will let him post them to the internet, they'd be cool to see. I've checked in to what I could on the article just for kicks and I can't find anything that says it's surely false. All parties mentioned are REAL people.

When I've transported snakes or lizards, I've popped a heating pad IN with them purely for storage and convience, though none of my snakes would be able to EAT it! LOL

I wouldn't be feeding a snake before taking it on stage, it would puke all over me! :) I think I would wait a couple of days.

Who knows however what the period of time was, obviously time enough to get a replacement.

All these questions over something that doesn't matter anyway, humans are too darned nosey

And having 2 kids i have learned that everything and anything can happen lol **** happens in life rather intentional or not.

Wake up in the morning to see your beautifull Miniatus Grouper, Angular Fish, Yellow Tang and on floating in a tank of red water. My niece was staying over one night and woke up way early. She then decided the fish would enjoy some Hawain Punch so poored a few cans in the tank for them

I know Hawain is spelled wrong but workin 3 doubles in a row has a tendency to help you forget how to spell. lol

Hey Kingevil!
Please ask Vince to post here with what really happened, and also ask him to join the AHA while you're at it.
Thanks.

he doesn't answer to vince as that is not his real name. he legally changed it to 'alice cooper' in 76. if anyone besides his mom calls him vince, he doesn't answer out of habit. i don't beleive he would join the aha simply because he's not really into snakes outside of his stage show.

so i could go start a crazy rumor about you, and if nobody contests it, then it must be true? i think i understand what you mean, but it's not great logic.

like i said before, an full official report of what really did happen hasn't been given. therefore, i am not at liberty to talk about it. i'm sure people here can respect that? this story has circulated all over the world and you can imagine how much time it would take to send corrections to every single agency giving the false information. also, i don't think they feel compelled to spend time over this issue since everything has worked out just fine for all involved.

are we STILL beating this horse? Its DEAD already! My gosh you guys, get over it.

the snake is fine, regardless of the story, so let it go.

I see no need for any further posts to this topic.
