Are there any events where you guys teach the proper methods of (rattle) snake handling? I'm getting tired of being ambushed. Sidewinders realllllly like my property for some reason. They used to ambush me at the garbage can, but now they're showing up in my free-standing garage and guarding my Harley for me.
I can move the really small ones with a bucket and a shovel, but I'm reluctant to do anything to the larger ones. I'm an hour west of Phoenix (too far to have you guys come out and get the snakes) and I don't want to drag the volunteer fire department out of bed everytime I get ambushed.
If you have some annual or semi-annual thing where you teach this, that would be perfect. Once taught, I may be able to help out in the far west valley..

buy yourself some tongs and a hook...it's a piece of cake with the right tools.
Bill Sloan of AHA can hook you up (pun intended).

I am sure that if you show up at the next meeting, any one of the members with venomous experience would be more than happy to show you how to safely handle the critters...you could get the stick and the bucket there also!
Thanks !

If you are a member come to the next meeting (you can come even if you are not) and see if you can hook up with a volunteer for calls when you have some spare time. That way you can learn and also become a hot line volunteer (you have to be a member for that).

You are getting very annoying. Keep your idiot comments to one post or go else where. You are giving the AHA a worse name then it already has.

An hour west of town is a common place for people with "hot" experience to be. Perhapse someone is planning a jaunt out that way and could make a plan to stop by to see you. I won't be going out there for a while.

Go through the main entrance and turn left. Go past the sign that says "Zoo Employees Only" and turn right. If you get lost, holler. :D

Okay, I'll be there in time for the swap meet. I'll be looking for tongs, a bucket, and a teacher...;) I'll probably have my 11 year old as well. He loves snakes.
I assume cash only for the swap meet?

That doesn't surprise me. Anyone deathly afraid of snakes, scorpions, and all manner of large, unidentifiable insects doesn't last long out here. Over the last year there's been a lot of construction to the west and north of me (I'm at the intersection of I10 and Sun Valley Parkway (Bell Road)) and there's a lot of displaced critters running around.
They are all coming to my house for some reason...;)
