Hi!

I live in Northern Arizona (about 45 miles south of The Grand Canyon on highway 64), and I am curious to know what species of Phrynosoma these are that I have on my property. I will attach a small picture, but larger images of photographs of these horned lizards can be found on my web site at: www.utchs.com

Thanks!

Greater Short-horned Lizard - Phrynosoma hernandesi to me. you can find information on this and more at the AZ Parc site. Here is the link to the HT I mentioned.

Thanks, Mike!

I believe you are correct... ...at least from what I can tell by the pictures on the web site that you posted (nice site, by the way). I'll assume Phrynosoma Hernandesi, then, unless someone has other information.

Thanks, again!

I was gonna guess short horned lizard but I got my information from a picture in the eastern field guide. (my Stebbins is lost). I wasn't even sure they occurred in Arizona.:o

Hi! Please excuse my ignorance, but is there a difference between the "Greater Short-Horned Lizard" and the "Mountain Short-Horned Lizard"... ...or are they one and the same? I don't mean to sound picky... ...I'm just trying to be technically correct. Is there a url that may distinquish any difference between the two?

Thanks!

P. douglassii hernandesi. However, even though both have short horns, genetic research has shown that P. hernandesi is NOT a ssp of P. douglassii. What you have there is P. hernandesi.
