I keep looking for a Gopher snake. They appear to be everywhere except where I'm looking.

gophers seem far more common were there is a lot if mans influence. Out in the wilderness areas rattlesnakes seem far more common and one doesn't see gophers very often by comparison.

Come to think of it, Rich is right. I have only see three or so gophers in the last two years, but dozens of rattlesnakes in the wild

kids watching Tucson get built up. In undisturbed areas the local rattlesnake species seemed to be by far the most common snake. Gophers were rarely seen. Ten years after developement the rattlers were gone and the gophers were literally coming out our ears! I think they make a pretty good indicator species.

John,

All resturant calls are your's (per Carol)!!!! I was positive there were 2 Diamond Backs under there!!!

To All: This is the perfect example of someone that is scared of snakes but cares enough to save them from others. The Manager of this resturant was having to stop others from trying to kill this snake, and she was frantic that we would not be able to get there fast enough to save this little guy.;)

good save fleas! I would agree that there are quite a few more gophers than atrox in developed areas, but where i was working in the field they seemed to run about dead even. of course, i worked in a riparian area, so that might have something to do with it.

Oh BTW, for those of you who didn't know, i'm not going back in the field this summer, i got a job at the Zoo. :D

John,

You would not happen to drive a blue avalanche, would you? Do I want to ask what happened??
