Got this hotline call of a gopher snake already captured. Before I got there the lady had put down a plastic storage box and pushed it up against the snake and house forcing the snake into the box. She turned it up and put the lid on and put a 20 lb rock on top. As I walk up to her she said it was a rattlesnake and could hear it rattle. Sure enough when I took the lid off it was a 3 foot Western Diamondback Rattlesnake. I think the lady was very lucky as this one of the most mild mannered rattlesnake that I have run into in some time. At release it just wanted to get away, would not coil after "hooking" several times. Finally I positioned the snake with my hook in a loose coil for a pose. Although it rattled several times it finally froze in one position, not following me at all. It laid it tail to one side and stayed there for 10 minutes before crawling away very slowly.
