Ring-Necked Snake! One of my favorites! This one is about 18 inches long and was out catching some rays when I happened by.

What a good looking snake. You really can't tell how little it is until the 2nd pic with it in your hand. Gorgeous snake.

How common are these? I've only seen one on the Salt River in the many years I've lived here. Has anyone here ever kept these?

I kept some when I lived in Indiana. They stay hidden alot and the only thing I could get them to eat were salamanders, usually red-backed.

p. regalis, is mainly a snake eater. We were able to feed the last one we had a few lizards. It would be in real trouble in AZ if it was set on eating sallies. the Regal is also one of the largest of the Ringnecks, although in certains areas it frequently has no ring. D.p.amabilis, in So CA, also likes salamanders and can be found where Batrachoseps are common.

Nice snake, Terry. Are you going to keep it?

I will be keeping this one. I like having a variety of local snakes to show the school kids.

Let us know if he feeds o.k., and what on. I really liked the one I found, but he was extremely unhappy with being caught so I let him go. Cool snake, keep us posted.
