I've been herping solo for too long apparently. Old hibits are hard to break since I've been spotting the same species every year, mostly d-backs, tigers, garters, bulls, longnoses, glossys, patchnoses, gilas, desert tortoises, and coachwhips. I'd like to see a live kingsnake, sand snake, and even a ground snake at least once. Where does one spot these species? I'm looking for a herping partner who to find new spots and new strategies. I don't collect. I just take pictures. My email address is mattdorsey@hotmail.com if you are interested. My name is Scott.

I have the same habit of going back to the same spots over & over & over..............

So now every winter I get the map out and my Stebbins and make a list for the sole purpose of finding "target" animals. It's actually fun going to new places and finding stuff. I priortize my list (since it's always too long!) and then just GO. Still a little early farther North, but stuff is out just about everywhere. I haven't went road hunting at night yet, just doing a lot of walking during the day.

Get your Stebbins (range map) and start looking. Sounds like you already found some cool stuff.

Hey, I took your advice (sort of) and went to two different locations that I wasn't too familiar with: Oracle and the Eagletail Mountains. Unfortunately, I didn't find anything different. I found a d-back and a small gila monster on the Az trail in Oracle and a d-back in the Eagletails. But that was good advice though. I will use it to target areas outside the desert and head up toward Chino Valley, Chirichua, Crown King, and/or Sierra Vista.
