reptile remover! lol. i wanna start rescuing some of the local snakes that wander into peoples yards. all the time when i ride my bike i see gophers or kings with their heads chopped off or smashed like a pancake. i wanna help control this in my neighborhood. so i want to start a reptile removal service ( no i dont wanna take the thunder and glory away from the aha). the reason is i dont have a membership to the aha and i cant really come to the meeting often, so why join the aha? i mean i love it and all and i will help the aha as much as i can but i dont wanna pay my money for nothing. transportation is not a problem but do i need any lagal forms? i know i need a general hunting license but is this it? i will probably just make a bunch of fliers and put 'em on mailboxes and things like that. so do i need any special permits or anything?

You have to be at least 18 years old to work the AHA hotline anyway.
You need a state hunting license to rescue/capture/pursue wildlife.
Get out the word in your neighborhood, flyers, business cards, etc...
I joined the AHA because I don't mind making a donation to a worthy cause (I don't make it to the meetings or vote either).

Membership to a club isn't about going to a meeting. Membership is contributing to all that the club does, it helps pay for the newsletters and cover the running expenses of the community services it provides. It doesn't cover all of the free time people give to the club but it does help pay for things like printing fees, postage and many other things. However there is SO much it doesn't cover, I am certain that many members spend a LOT of out of pocket money just to help a club out. As a matter of fact, you don't even have to be a member to go to a meeting, they are open to the public, anyone can come at anytime.
You cannot put fliers on mail boxes or in mail boxes or you'll have the post office after you on federal charges.

it isn't just for meetings:) There are other benefits, the newsletter the Desert Monitor when done, the ability to adopt rescued non-native animals...ect...ect...ect...
The fliers are a good idea, let the neighborhood know to "Get the Snake kid from down the street." Donna is right the Post Office doesn't want to share "THEIR" mailboxes or they would call them shareboxes. LOL
And Terry is a Member and on the Hotline, he just uses that old "It's to far to drive to Phoenix from Morenci" excuse. LOL:D Just Kiddin'.
Membership means involvement. If you can't get to meetings find another way to be involved and get your dues worth. It's a "Bigger Picture" kinda' thing.

maybe i didnt word it right. i probably will join the aha but i cant do the hotline through it anyway because you have to be 18. not just mailboxes but i can find a way to get the word out. howcome everyone else is always using the mailboxes then to put up like babysitting fliers and things. i love the aha and i will do anything to support it (okay not anything but i will join!).thank you for the replies!

they don't know any better...they are also breaking the law...
if they jumped off a bridge would you also????
Sorry the parental rave just had to come out...LOL
You worded it fine, your comments just provided an avenue to answer other questions that may be out there.
When you do turn 18 I Expect you to get on the Hotline. Take this time now to learn respect for the snakes abilities to defend itself.
Get yourself comfortable with them where YOU or THEY will not get harmed. Even Old-Timers need to keep themselves aware of this.

You may want to include on your flyer some tips on what someone should do if they find a snake in their yard.

Maybe an idea would be to do up the fliers and show people what to do when they see a reptile like the AHA reptile encounters guide. Then you can go around door to door give the fliers out to educate the people in your neighborhood. Possibly ask Andy if you could include the AHA hotline phone number on the fliers or given to people who ask who they should call when a rattlesnake is in their backyard. Pass fliers out in your school or post reptile encounter information on posterboards. Ask a teacher or teachers to read to their classes what you should do when encountering a reptile or snake.
Good luck to you Snake Boy and any educational action you choose will definately make a difference.;)
