The park ranger at the Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area has invited us to their park to do a couple of Education Events. Depending on the weather, it could either be inside the visitor's center or out walking on the trails there. The address is 10919 S Central Ave, Phoenix. The dates we have stated that we would be available are Sundays Oct 21st & Nov 18th, both from 10 AM - 12 Noon. These are going to be Native only education events.
Let me know if anyone is interested, either through this thread, a PM or e-mail me at katsnake@gmail.com I can also be reached in the evenings and on weekends at 480-703-8907. (Just not too early, I'm a nightowl. See what time I posted this thread?) :whistle2:
If the weather permits, I would love to walk around the park a bit, pointing out herps or herp habitats, what to look for, though that is harder to do. (I will have to go check it out in early October to see what the trails look like!) :whistle2: LOL

Yes you can, with a hunting license. You can't take animals from a preserve, like South Mountain.
Anyway, I think Brandon was saying he would go out and catch some lizards to bring to the park for display purposes.

Hey all, I just got word that the dates will change... after I had accepted those dates from the list that they gave me, I found out that another person at the Rio Salado Restoration Habitat scheduled other groups to come in on those dates & times.... :banghead:
I have given her a modified list of times she had available that are possible and we are not obligated elsewhere. I will need to wait to get her confirmation on which days she can pick from those....
Obviously, the date of Sept. 30th was out, :whistle2: since I think that everyone that can go will be in Tucson for the Herp Show. LOL
I will update this as soon as I know something more concrete, but it is great to see so many people that can come out, it's EXCELLENT!!!!
I will let you know when we finalize the other dates. :drinks:

UPDATE:
We have sent in our final calendar dates. The dates I have for our Snakes, Lizards, and Gila Monsters, OH MY! featuring you and the AHA are:
Sunday, October 7, 2007 -10am to 11:30am
and
Sunday, January 6, 2008 - 10am to 11:30am
How we billed the day's events:
The Sonoran desert is filled with exciting snakes, lizards, and monsters!
The Arizona Herpetological Association (AHA) is partnering with the Phoenix Park Rangers to bring the desert life directly to you! AHA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation, study, and understanding of reptiles and amphibians. Get up close and personal with rattlesnakes, learn about the elusive Gila monster, and even hold a non-venomous snake!. Most importantly, discover how you can protect yourself while hiking in their natural environment. This program is perfect for children and adults alike!
We did mention that we will be passing out posters - and handouts. We also mentioned that live reptiles will be present.
We will be meeting at:
Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area, 2439 South Central Avenue, Northeast Trailhead (South of I -17 North of Broadway)

The actual restoration area is just South East of where the arrow shows, and there should be signs showing where the parking is located for access to the trailhead. I am going out there beforehand to scope out where the best place would be for us to do our education event there. (Most likely just at the trailhead, and they will have a canopy for us if necessary.
